RIM Responds to Exec's Open Letter
I actually have to give RIM some props for responding to the open letter posted on BGR earlier today by an anonymous RIM executive. Now days, it isn’t often that you have companies responding directly to leaks and criticism on the blogosphere.
It’s important that public companies are engaged in an open dialogue with us, their potential customers shareholders, about their strengths and weaknesses, because it gives us more confidence that they’re paying attention and doing what they need to do to come out with great products and services. The fact that they came with the reply so quickly after the letter was leaked, is also helpful, as it shows they have a sense of urgency.
That said, I do think RIM’s response could have been far less defensive and should have been more specific in what it’s doing to fix some of the problems it calls out here:
It is fair to say that the senior management team at RIM is nonetheless fully aware of and aggressively addressing both the company’s challenges and its opportunities.
After reading this story, I definitely do feel as though RIM is trying some things internally to put their ship back on course. But because it was so vague and defensive, I’m worried they probably don’t feel confidently in how well their plan is set to work.
